The Diamond 580 is TWSBI’s signature pen, a clear-bodied piston-filler that strips a fountain pen down to its working parts and asks you to admire them. The Iris finish is the line’s most theatrical: an iridescent coating that shifts between pearl, lilac, pink and blue as the light catches it.
Mechanically it’s the same 580 that earned the line its reputation: the piston system holds roughly 30% more ink than the older 530, with a smoother cap thread than earlier iterations.

TWSBI was launched in 2009 in Taiwan by Ta Shin Precision, a manufacturer with decades of experience producing plastic and metal components for other companies before turning that expertise to fountain pens of its own. The name comes from the Chinese phrase "San Wen Tong" — the Hall of Three Cultures — with the initials reversed to form "TWS" and "BI" added for its meaning of writing instrument.
The brand is best known for its piston-filling demonstrator pens, including the Diamond 580 and the hugely popular ECO. Clear barrels show off the ink and filling mechanism, while a level of build quality usually reserved for far more expensive pens is offered at a genuinely accessible price.
