The TWSBI ECO is the brand’s entry-point fountain pen: a piston-filling demonstrator that brings the working principles of a much more expensive pen down to a more affordable price.
This Carrara w/Onyx edition has a white marbled body inspired by Carrara marble, finished with onyx-black cap and trim, one of the more dressed-up ECOs and a striking contrast piece.
Mechanically, the ECO uses the same piston-filling system as TWSBI’s more expensive pens, holds a healthy ink capacity. The steel nib writes wet and reliably.

TWSBI was launched in 2009 in Taiwan by Ta Shin Precision, a manufacturer with decades of experience producing plastic and metal components for other companies before turning that expertise to fountain pens of its own. The name comes from the Chinese phrase "San Wen Tong" — the Hall of Three Cultures — with the initials reversed to form "TWS" and "BI" added for its meaning of writing instrument.
The brand is best known for its piston-filling demonstrator pens, including the Diamond 580 and the hugely popular ECO. Clear barrels show off the ink and filling mechanism, while a level of build quality usually reserved for far more expensive pens is offered at a genuinely accessible price.
