The Diamond 580ALR is TWSBI’s signature 580 with anodised aluminium hardware in place of the standard plastic trim, with the same clear-bodied piston-filler underneath, with a heavier hand and a more deliberate feel.
This Affogato w/Onyx edition pairs a warm caramel-brown demonstrator body with onyx-black aluminium hardware, cap, end cap, piston knob and section trim all anodised in a deep matte black.
Mechanically, it’s the same 580 that’s earned the line its reputation, with roughly 30% more ink capacity than the older 530.

TWSBI was launched in 2009 in Taiwan by Ta Shin Precision, a manufacturer with decades of experience producing plastic and metal components for other companies before turning that expertise to fountain pens of its own. The name comes from the Chinese phrase "San Wen Tong" — the Hall of Three Cultures — with the initials reversed to form "TWS" and "BI" added for its meaning of writing instrument.
The brand is best known for its piston-filling demonstrator pens, including the Diamond 580 and the hugely popular ECO. Clear barrels show off the ink and filling mechanism, while a level of build quality usually reserved for far more expensive pens is offered at a genuinely accessible price.
