Notebook covers often come across as serious and formal, but this Superior Labor A5 cover breaks the mould with a bold, eye-catching embossing that adds both presence and playfulness. Combined with the natural texture of the leather, it’s a piece that develops a unique character the more you use it.
Pen holders are attached to both the front and back covers, allowing you to secure the notebook closed by threading a single pen through both loops. Of course, you can also insert two pens separately if you prefer.
The vegetable-tanned leather is crafted by Tochigi Leather using traditional pit tanning: hides are soaked slowly in tannin-rich pits for weeks to months, producing a firm, durable leather that ages beautifully with use.

The Superior Labor was founded in 2007 by Makoto Kawai, a master of leatherwork and vintage clothing. The workshop at Nap Village was established in 2012, high in the Okayama mountains, where a small team cuts and sews every piece by hand.
The quality of materials and superb craftsmanship are what sets TSL apart. Paraffin-coated canvas, Tochigi and glove leather, and solid brass hardware are all chosen to wear in rather than wear out.

New collections are released twice a year and are usually offered here as a pre-order before they land.
